Your Data — Local-First & Private
All documents are stored in your browser's IndexedDB first — edits save instantly, even offline. Nothing leaves your device unless you choose to enable cloud sync. No tracking, no analytics, no telemetry.
Without cloud sync enabled, clearing your browser data or switching devices will erase your documents. Use the download button to export all docs as a ZIP of .md files regularly, or enable cloud sync for automatic cross-device backup.

What is the Claude.ai Connector?
The Claude.ai Connector lets Claude read, create, edit, search, and organize your MD Edit documents directly from any Claude conversation. Sign in to MD-Edit Cloud and add the Connector in Claude.ai settings, or run claude mcp add md-edit https://md-edit.com/mcp in Claude Code. Setup takes about 2 minutes. Then you can say things like:
- "Save this to MD Edit" — Ask Claude to write an analysis or plan, then save it straight to your library. It syncs across all your devices.
- "Update my doc about [topic] in the [folder] folder" — Claude finds the right document, edits it in place, and the updated version syncs everywhere.
- "Read my doc about [topic]" — Claude searches your library, reads the full document, and picks up where you left off — no copy-pasting needed.
Cloud Sync (Optional)
- Google Drive Sync — Connect your own Google Drive and your documents sync as .md files in a dedicated folder. Documents go directly from your browser to Google — MD Edit never sees, stores, or proxies your content. Uses the minimal
drive.file permission so the app can only access files it created.
- MD-Edit Cloud — Sign in with GitHub, Google, or a magic link to sync documents across devices via our servers (Supabase, hosted on AWS). Your local copy is always the source of truth.
- Multi-Device Sync — Edits sync automatically across devices. If both sides change the same document, a conflict modal lets you choose which version to keep or keep both.
- Always Optional — The editor works fully offline without any account. Cloud sync is a choice, not a requirement.
Document Sharing
Share any document with specific people by email. Click the Share button, enter an email address, and choose view or edit permissions. The recipient gets an invitation email with a direct link to the document. Manage who has access, copy invite links, change permissions, or revoke access anytime from the Share modal. Free users get 5 shares with view access; Pro and Founder users get unlimited shares with edit permissions.
Version History
Every save is tracked automatically. Browse previous versions of any document, compare changes side-by-side with a visual diff, and restore any version with one click. Never lose work — even after major edits. Version history is available for all cloud-synced documents.
